Tree clearance works for a new bus route at West Cambourne

In a conscious effort to improve connectivity and provide convenient transportation options to the residents of Cambourne, from 29th January 2024, we will be undertaking tree clearance works in order to create a new bus route. The removal of the trees will be from the current pathway, known as Broadway Drift Greenway, which connects Sterling Way to Broadway. These works are part of a broader initiative driven and requested by South Cambridgeshire District Council and are stipulated in the Section 106 agreement associated with the planning permissions for our developments in West Cambourne.

These works are integral to the goal of enhancing connectivity and providing convenient transportation options to the residents of Cambourne and the surrounding areas.

We will ensure that all tree clearance works are conducted between 8:00am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. We will also endeavour to keep all areas clean at all times and residents will not lose access to their properties. However, do note that Broadway Drift Greenway, where the trees are currently situated, will be closed during this time

Before any of the works started, the trees were inspected by an ecologist who carried out a pre-commencement check prior to removal to ensure no wildlife was present. Under our approved ecological management plan we will replant 1,825 new shrubs including Field Maple, Hawthorn, Guelder Rose and Blackthorn, as well as 109 new trees like Oak, Hornbeam, Wild Cherry, and Apple. Additionally, we’ll establish 240 metres of new native hedge to promote biodiversity. Please be aware that the existing hedges on the north and south sides of the greenway will be retained and laid to reduce their height and width.

The new bus route will enable residents to travel between Cambourne and the new Bourne Airfield development much more easily, therefore facilitating greater connectivity for all those living within close proximity.

We currently anticipate that the clearance works will be completed by 5th March 2024, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

We will do our best to keep you informed and up to date on the progress of the works and inform you of any significant changes that may affect you along the way.
